Basic Beekeeping Course Pretoria
The overall basic beekeeping course goal is that students be able to understand:
- Operational structure of the hive – roles within the hive
- Life cycle of the bee
- Basic hive management, placement of hives, smoking and opening your hive
- Bee farming, feeding your bees, swarming, queen marking
- Threats to your hive, pests and predators
- Honey harvesting useful tips
- Logging and record keeping
A full day beekeepers course from 08H30 to 16H00 (including an extensive field session, opening and inspecting hives and working with the bees)
Cost R1500 pp (All meals and refreshments included)
Basic beekeeping course to be held at The Honey Bee Group’s nursing apiary east of Silver Lakes, Pretoria
Beekeepers course material and relevant documents will be supplied on a USB Flash disc, such as:
- DALRRD (Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development) registration form as this is a legislative requirement for keeping bees.
- NBA (Northern Beekeepers Association) membership application form
- SABIO (South African Bee Industries Organisation) membership application form
- Van Der Laan beekeepers liability insurance application form
- An attendance certificate will also be issued (digital format)
